While snow is unlikely, the Christmas Season in Vancouver still has plenty to offer those seeking some holiday cheer this Year. The Christmas Season displays for most attractions typically begin during the last few days of November and usually last through the month of December. The following is a list of activities you may want to visit:
Canyon Lights at the Capilano Suspension Bridge – An impressive display of lights with over 250,000 lights throughout the park, including across the Suspension Bridge and along Cliffwalk. The park is also home to the world’s largest living Christmas Tree during the Christmas Season. The holiday display dates for this year are November 23rd, 2017 to January 28th, 2018. The Peak of Christmas at Grouse Mountain – Take the tram to the top of Grouse Mountain for ice skating, sliding, snowshoeing, skiing, sleigh rides, choir performances, reindeer and even breakfast with Santa on select days in December. Bring along your cameras to capture the spectacular views of Vancouver below. The dates are not yet out for this Christmas Season, but last year The Peak of Christmas ran thru the last week of November to January 2nd, so will likely be similar dates this year. Bright Nights in Stanely Park – A favorite Christmas activity for adults and kids, the miniature train travels through spectacular light & animated displays through the park. Over 2 million lights! Live musical performances. Bright Nights in Stanley Park typically runs between the last couple of days of November and January 1st (closed Christmas Day). Van Dusen Gardens Festival of Lights – Stunning light displays, choir performances and the dancing light show on Livingston Lake. For the kids, Santa’s Living Room with appearances from Santa on select December dates. The Festival of Lights runs December 1st thru January 2nd, closed Christmas Day. Vancouver Trolley’s Karaoke Christmas Tour – Sing along to your favorite Christmas carols on this tour that visits both Bright Nights in Stanley Park and Van Dusen Gardens Festival of Lights! Departs Canada Place every evening between December 1st and December 29th (closed Christmas Day). Advance tickets are necessary. The Carolship Parade of Lights – Purchase tickets to join one of the caroling cruises, or just watch the Christmas light adorned ships from the shore as they float by on select dates through December. Tickets are available through participating dinner cruise companies.
The Festival of Trees at the Four Seasons Hotel – Wander through the lobby of the Four Seasons and continue through Pacific Centre Shopping Mall to view this sponsor decorated Christmas Tree display benefiting the BC Children’s Hospital. The Festival of Trees is typically on display between November 25th to January 2nd. Gingerbread Lane at The Hyatt Regency Vancouver – Located in the hotel lobby, check out the many gingerbread houses on display. Donations from 2016/17’s event benefited the Make a Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon. Dates for this years display are not yet out, we will update when this information has become available.
The Vancouver Christmas Market – An authentic German Christmas Market with music & dance performances, food, drinks, gift shops (great authentic wood carvings/toys), and a Kids Market that includes a Christmas Carousel. The Vancouver Christmas Market for 2017 takes place from November 22nd to December 24th. Free Outdoor Ice-Rink at Robson Square – A fun break from shopping along Robson Street or the nearby Pacific Centre Mall, or great activity after a visit to the Art Gallery across the street! Bring your own skates or rent a pair at the rink.
Fly Over Canada Christmas – A Christmas themed Fly Over Canada experience. This is a must do for those that have never experienced the Fly Over ride before. Very unique and an exciting way to see an overview of Canada. Dates for this years Christmas season have not yet been released. We will update when this information becomes available. A Traditional Christmas from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra – several performance dates throughout December at various locations. Visit the VSO website for performance dates and ticketing info.
The Rogers Santa Clause Parade – Find the perfect viewing spot along the downtown parade route to watch the parade and to see Santa. The date for this years parade has not yet been confirmed. We will update this info once the date becomes available.
Whistler – Those that have a bit of extra time may also want to take a day trip or even an overnighter to Whistler, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Whistler Village offers a great Christmas atmosphere with plenty of shopping, dining and outdoor winter adventure! www.whistler.com/christmas
Victoria – Victoria also offers a lot of activity during the Christmas Season, and can also be done as a day trip or as an add on to a trip to Vancouver. A must for those taking the day trip to Victoria is a visit to The Magic of Christmas at the Butchart Gardens, which takes place between December 1st and January 6th.
